Jack McCaffery joins The Farzy Show with Marc Farzetta | Friday June 25th, 2021

TGIF (Thank god its Farzy!). Farzy is back bringing you everything in Philly sports. Marc talks Phillies baseball, Ben Simmons, and brings you another great addition of Farzy in the Field, asking fans whether Ben Simmons should stay or go? That is the ultimate question. We check in with ESPNs’, Adrian Wojnarowski who says that there have been reports of a potential trade of Ben Simmons though he is wary of the Sixers trading him after his dip in value following this year’s Playoffs.

“Stars often don’t get traded at 24 years old,” Farzy says. The Sixers need the spacing on the floor that they simply did not have in the playoffs. Marc says the Sixers GM Daryl Morey should keep doing what he is doing and take a patient approach to this off-season.

In baseball, the Phillies begin a three-game series against the number one team in the NL East, the New York Mets. Farzy expected the Phillies to be six or seven games ahead of where they find themselves now.

On the Zatos Investments guest line, Farzy welcomes in Delaware County Daily Times columnist, Jack McCaffery. Marc starts by asking: “Would you trade Ben Simmons or Joel Embiid?” Jack responds with an adamant: “you should have traded Ben Simmons three days ago!” The time is now he argues but he says that the Sixers should not rule out trading Joel Embiid as well. Read Jack’s column here.  Though McCaffrey knew that if Embiid would be traded then chaos would break down in Philadelphia! The only way he sees trading Embiid is if you also get rid of Simmons and do a complete rebuild. Though McCaffery is not giving him away to free cap space, “I want value for value,” Jack says, though he knows certain compromises will have to be made.

McCaffery does not object to Woj’s report on Ben Simmons but “there are two different things between being committed and self-disciplined and actually carrying through on that commitment and I’ll believe it when I see it,” Jack says.

They then go into Héctor Neris and what he has to do before getting fired. For Jack, it is “up to the general manager to identify we cannot win with this guy.” McCaffery also says that after decades of covering the Phillies, that this is the worst baseball team he has ever seen them have. “It is embarrassing and awful,” Jack proclaims.

During our social media check-in, brought to you by Steak and Main, Marc talks about how the only superstar the Sixers has is Joel Embiid, before stating “this team is only going to go as far as Joel Embiid is going to take them.” He looks at the teams remaining in the Playoffs like the Phoenix Suns and talks about how the leading scorers are the shooters, not the defensive stalwarts. Farzy also differentiates the difference between a reporter and a columnist.

In this week’s edition of Farzy in the Field, brought to you by Fan Up, Marc goes into center city to ask fans whether Ben Simmons should stay or go? After an hour of people saying “he should go,” one fan finally says that he should stay.

In the Morning Rush segment, brought to you by Sky Motor Cars, the Los Angeles Clippers were able to spoil Chris Paul’s return, bringing the series to 2-1 for the Phoenix Suns. Game 2 between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Atlanta Hawks is tonight. Farzy also speaks of Conan O’Brien’s retirement from Late Night saying “he will be missed.”
