Jim Jackson joins The Farzy Show with Marc Farzetta | Wednesday, June 30th, 2021

We are back for the Farzy Show!  Marc catches you up on the Sixers, Phillies, Flyers and pays tribute to the great voice of the Sixers, Marc Zumoff, who is calling it a career.  Farzy also checks in with the high injury rate in the NBA Playoffs, with “NBA stars dropping like flies with Kawhi, Giannis, Paul, Young and even our own Joel Embiid all getting injured.” If you haven’t already, go pick up a copy of the Daily News featuring the article DameDreaming from last week’s guest, Keith Pompey and why he makes the most sense for the Sixers.

Let’s kick it off with a 4-3 Phillies win over the Miami Marlins. “The bottom line is when you do good things we talk about good things and winning baseball games is a good thing!” an excited Farzy states. Aaron Nola will be back on the mound tonight for the second of the three games against the Marlins. Now for the Phillies it is just a question of putting wins together. “There is no better time than now,” Farzy says. “The next month of the season is like playoff baseball for the Phillies. This is a team that needs to put these wins together before the Eagles get started,” Marc explains.

On a sadder note, after 40 years in broadcasting and 27 as the play-by-play voice for the 76ers, Marc Zumoff is hanging up the mic. Farzy who met Zumoff during his freshman year at Temple back in 2001 was amazed at his generosity with his time and oozing positivity. He is a “man going out on his own terms,” says Farzy.  Zumoff was a mentor for Farzy, who almost left Philly to run a pizza shop in Italy. Zumoff was able to convince Farzy to stay with his following here in Philadelphia and put his pizza dream on hold.

On the Zatos Investments Guest Line, Farzy talks with the great Jim Jackson, play-by-play announcer for the Flyers and Phillies. They begin by talking about Zumoff’s retirement and the great memories they shared together. “There are some broadcasters that like to hang on but Marc is still at the top of his game,” says Jackson who is shocked and will miss Zumoff, but is very happy for him. This sounded the alarm bell in a way for Jackson who says that retirement is not that far off, calling it “a wakeup call.”

Jackson talks about Dave Hakstol getting another shot with the Seattle Kraken.  Read beloved guest on The Farzy Show, Mike Sielski’s article Dave Hakstol gets a shot with the Seattle Kraken to prove he wasn’t the problem with the Flyers | Mike Sielski in the Philly Inquirer.

They go into the Phillies with Jackson believing that “the division is still there for the taking but can anyone take it is the question?” JJ says.

Jackson finishes up by talking about his broadcast coaching/mentoring program that he offers to aspiring broadcaster of all ages? If interested go to @jjbroadcastingcoaching. Farzy asks JJ if we are going to be, ok?” Jackson responds that the Sixers are the closest to achieving something special.

During our Social Media check-in, brought to you by Steak and Main, Farzy catches up with listeners who talk about Zumoff.

In the Morning Rush Segment, brought to you by Sky Motor Cars, Farzy says “if you are an NBA star you better start counting your blessings.” The Milwaukee Bucks not only lost game 4 to the Young-less Atlanta Hawks but their superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo as well. The series is tied at 2 games apiece heading back to Milwaukee. The Los Angeles Clippers look to force Game 7 against the Phoenix Suns tonight at the Staples Center. In need for a feel-good story? Listen to Farzy’s dog story.
